Fall, Winter and Spring seasons

Do you find yourself playing in your community or park with the same people day after day? Do you try going to a new park and hoping for new, better competition but failing miserably? Do you enter tournaments but are turned off by the exorbitant cost and sandbagging?

Our team league format solves all these problems....

1. Play against different players each week in scheduled matches

2. Build new friendships

3. Play against similarly skilled players for a fraction of the cost of one tournament

Boomer league levels are 2.0 to 3.5. Premier league levels are 2.5 to 5.0+

Boomer is a community-based league that plays on Thursdays at 2 pm. Premier is also community-based but allows free agents and hybrid teams and plays on Wednesdays at 11 am and 5 pm and a spring season on Saturdays at 11 am.

The North Broward league is a men's only 55+ league that plays on Saturdays at noon.

Boomer league uses the Diadem ball. Premier and NBMPL leagues use the Franklin X-40. The Parkland Women's League is a 50+ League that plays on Sundays at noon.

    Premier League Rules

MISSION STATEMENT: This league aims to provide competitive pickleball matches for players of similar ability. We all play for the enjoyment of the game, and once it becomes about winning at all costs, it loses some of the enjoyment of playing. With that in mind, the league reserves the right to interpret these rules as it sees fit, with flexibility in its decisions.

The home team captain must have a copy of these rules at the match.

    1. MATCH FORMAT

    ● Each match will consist of five (5) lines with ten (10) players representing each team (spring season consists of 4 lines and 8 players)
    ● Each line in divisions below 3.25 will play the best 2 of 3 games (divisions 3.25 and above will play all 3 games and switch sides at 6 in game 3)
    ● Each game will be played to 11 points – win by two (2)
    ● Each game is worth one (1) point in the Standings
    ● If a player has not played consecutive matches, then the allowable court position is determined by
    the line last played

Play must be one game on, then off, unless no other line is waiting to play.

ENTERING SCORES: The home team captain must input the match scores/statistics into LeagueRepublic by 8 pm on gameday. INSTRUCTIONS ARE ON THE WEBSITE at www.thepremierpbleague.com. The opposing captain has 48 hours to review the recorded scores. If the scores are not contested, the entered scores will be considered valid. Forfeited lines should be scored 11-0 in the stats. Do not enter a player's name for a forfeited match. The score sheet should be uploaded to LeagueRepublic at the time scores are being entered.

RECORDS:  All captains are to keep records of all match results until the end of the season in case of discrepancies or disputes.

    2. Rainouts must be rescheduled for the following day at the same time as the original game and each day thereafter (if inclement weather prevents play) until weather permits, unless captains agree to other arrangements. If captains cannot agree to other arrangements, the above-stated schedule MUST be followed. If started, the match continues from the time it was stopped. Captains decide if the game needs to be rescheduled but must wait at least 30 minutes to see if conditions improve. All games should be completed before the following Wednesday, if possible. Games that haven't been completed by the end of the regular season, and have an impact on the playoffs, can be made up anytime before the playoffs begin. Every effort must be made to play the match on the originally scheduled date as rainouts are strongly discouraged.

    3. Eligibility: Teams must have a minimum of 10 players. All players must be at least 55 years old by December 31st of the year the season is being played. Verification must be provided if requested by the league. Players must reside or own a home in the community they represent* (*except hybrid and free agent teams) or, if not, they must be approved to play for a community by the league. Any player who does not reside in the community and is approved to play must be of a similar skill level to their team **this is especially true for hybrid (free agent) teams...they cannot have a player substantially better then the division average, as determined by the league (e.g. if their team is in division 2 no player should be above 4.25 dupr and in division 3 no player should be above 3.75 dupr). These ratings can change based on the number of divisions in a season.** Certified pickleball teachers are allowed to play in Division 1 and in Division 2 but must be rated below 4.0 in Division 2. Beginning Winter 2025, all players must have a DUPR rating below 5.0 unless expressly approved to play by the league.  A player may play on multiple teams under the following condition: their "home" team and a free agent team, as long as the 2 teams play in different divisions. Players must play at least 1 regular-season match to be eligible for the playoffs. Captains are responsible for ensuring that all players on their team are eligible to play in the league based on the above criteria.

    4. BALL and Equipment: Each home team (or the team DESIGNATED as the home team in the schedule) provides 1 new or gently used ball to each line at the beginning of the match. The official league ball is the FRANKLIN X-40. PADDLES must be approved by USAPA. CLOTHING cannot be a similar color to the ball.

    5. Players Rights and Responsibilities.

Players must remember that they represent their club and their behavior reflects on their fellow team members. When playing at home, make the visiting team feel welcome. When playing away, remember you are a guest at your opponent’s club.

A player may request an umpire if he feels it is needed, and only under extreme circumstances. The umpire will have the authority to overrule calls if requested.

A player may request to have a spectator removed if the spectator is causing a disturbance or a conduct violation. At such time, the spectator may be warned or removed at the discretion of the person in charge.

A player may request a rule interpretation from either team captain.

A player may NOT ask those watching (including the person in charge) whether a ball is in or out, or what the score is.

A player must show good sportsmanlike conduct during all League matches.

Any team or player violating these rules or the Code of Conduct may be suspended for the balance of the season and/or not invited back for the following season at the discretion of the League.

Captains and players should familiarize themselves with these rules prior to the start of the season. Captains cannot agree to any situation that violates these rules.

    6. All serving violations:

The server must announce the correct score before serving so all the players can hear. If the receiving team believes a serving violation has occurred (score not called, wrong score called, incomplete score, baseline foot fault, wrong side serving) they shall stop play by either catching the ball or discontinuing play and announce the violation. At that point, the ball is considered dead and a do-over must ensue. If the receiving team fails to stop play and fails to call out the violation and play continues, they cannot call it later. Only referees can call side-arm serve violations and will give a warning the first time it is called; the second time results in a lost serve.

    7. Forfeits: A grace period of 15 minutes is given before a line is considered a forfeit. The forfeiting team does not choose which line to forfeit. All lines should "move up" to fill the top lines, therefore no line should begin playing until all players for ALL lines are present.

    8. Beginning Winter 2026, games are at 1 or 2 pm for lower divisions and 4 or 5 pm on Wednesdays in the Fall and Winter seasons. (Spring season games are played on Saturdays at 11 am or 1 pm.) For communities without lights (in divisions 1 and 2 only), the starting time for home matches is 4 pm (Fall and Winter), unless the home team agrees to play at 5 pm at the opposing team's facility.

    9. FACILITY: Communities must have a minimum of 2 hard surface courts to participate or must play all "away" games if requested by the opposing team.

    10. Time-outs are two per game per team. Each should last for 1 minute. Captains, co-captains, and players participating in the game can call timeouts.

    a. Medical time-out is up to 10 minutes.

    b. No substitutions are allowed. If a person cannot continue a match (due to injury, exhaustion, etc), the result of any previous game will count toward the standings, and any game not completed will be scored 11-0 in favor of the non-injured player's team. For example, in a best 2 of 3 match, a player retiring during game 2 would lose games 2 and 3 (if they won game 1) and would only lose game 2 if they had already lost game 1. If a player retires during game 3 they will lose that game 11-0 and the results of the first 2 games stay as is.

    11. COACHING:  1. Any member of the team, including the Captain, the Co-captain, the Pro, or any designee of the Captain, may coach the players during the 1-minute time-outs. 2. No coaching during Medical time-outs. No coaching during hydration breaks.

    12.  In each new season, teams will be upgraded or downgraded in accordance with their performance within their division in the prior season

    13. The captain of the home team must arrange with the gate to have the opposing teams called in.

    14. STANDINGS/PLAYOFFS: (See Rule 24 for playoff formats.) If 2 or more teams have the same win-loss record in the regular season, the first tiebreaker is the best record head-to-head, then the most points won head-to-head.

In case of a playoff tie, the tiebreaker is total points won. If still tied, captains select 2 players to play a 1-game "winner take all" to 7 points, win by 2.

    15. The score sheet must be filled out with FIRST AND LAST NAMES and brought to the match to be given to the opposing team captain no later than the official starting time of the match; however, DO NOT EXCHANGE LINEUPS WITH THE OPPOSING CAPTAIN UNTIL ALL PLAYERS ARE PRESENT (IN CASE CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE.) No changes after lineups are exchanged. The home team score sheet is the official score sheet.

    16. Disputes

The captains shall try to resolve all disputes "on the spot". When there is a complaint about a member’s misbehavior or a dispute that cannot be settled by the captains, each team shall submit a written account of the incident to the League for resolution. In order to avoid ongoing disputes between opposing players during a match, any player competing in a game, or any Captain in that match, may request that line refs be appointed, at any time, for that game. Upon such request, the Captain from each team shall appoint one experienced player from the team or community, which may include the Captain or any pro in attendance, to serve as a line ref for that game. One line ref from each of the two teams competing shall stand on either side of the width of the court in proximity to a kitchen line and shall have the following duties: Referees will call kitchen violations on their own initiative without being asked. For all other faults or violations, such as in or out line calls, referees may confirm or deny a call by players only if they are asked by a player. If the referees disagree on a call the point must be replayed. As to serve violations, baseline foot faults, failing to call out the score, or calling an incorrect score, if asked by a player, they will confirm or not. If confirmed, they will issue one warning to the offending player. The next such confirmed violation will result in a loss of serve or point. Both Line Refs do not need to make or confirm a violation or fault. The line ref in the superior position to see a violation will normally make or confirm a call. If both line refs cannot confirm or deny a call, then the refs must announce they did not have a good enough view, and the call on the court stands.

    17. Line calls: Although it is well known that the receiving team calls balls "in or out" on their side of the net, in order to reduce arguments and maintain a friendly atmosphere players should always give the benefit of the doubt on close line calls to the opposing team and should therefore call a questionable ball "in" unless they can clearly see space between the line and the ball. If the partners on the receiving team disagree on whether a ball is in or out, it shall be considered in.

    18. Players are allowed to yell "out" before a ball lands as it is considered partner communication.

    19. Home team serves first and determines side. Second game visitors serve and switch sides.  If teams split the first two games, the third game, if necessary, is done the same as the first game (no coin flip needed). Players switch sides at 6 points. If the teams forget to switch at six (6), they switch immediately upon identifying the oversight and continue the game.

    20. (SEE RULE 27 EFFECTIVE WINTER 2026...SUPERCEDES RULE 20) Players must be assigned to lines by skill level with better players at the top and less skilled players at the bottom. THIS IS A RULE, NOT A REQUEST. If there is a complaint by a captain regarding an opposing team, the offending team may be penalized by forfeiting the line where the "out of position" player played (if they won the line) and receive one penalty point. No player can move more than 1 line (up or down) from one week to the next or they will forfeit their line (if won) and the team will be assessed 1 penalty point. If lost, 1 penalty point will be assessed. Accumulating 2 penalty points will result in 1 Standing point being deducted. Each additional penalty point will result in a 1 Standing point deduction. For the next match the offending player(s) is/are scheduled to play, the player(s) prior Line position shall be that he/she occupied the last time played prior to the week of the infraction. EXCEPTION: Players may move up more than 1 line to fill a vacant line (due to a forfeit) and must move back to their original position (or up or down 1 line from their original position) in the following game. SPECIAL PLAYOFF STACKING RULES... 1. If a player plays 50% or more of their games on line one during the regular season, they are ineligible to play line three or lower in the playoffs. 2. Likewise, if a player plays 50% or more on lines one or two (combined) during the regular season, they are ineligible to play line four or lower in the playoffs. And, 3. if a player plays 50% or more on lines 1, 2 or 3 (combined) they are ineligible to play line 5 in the playoffs. The 3 scenarios above are independent of each other, meaning a player can violate any one of the 3 and still be in violation. SPECIAL PLAYOFF STACKING RULES ONLY APPLY TO PLAYERS WHO PLAYED IN A MINIMUM OF 50% OF THEIR TEAM'S REGULAR SEASON MATCHES

    21. Kitchen faults can be called, however, if the player disagrees and no agreement can be met, replay point.

    22. By agreeing to play in The Premier Pickleball League ("the league"), each person, on behalf of himself/herself and his/her heirs and legal representatives, releases and forever discharges the league (its directors, officers and representatives of both), all public and private tennis and pickleball facilities, and sponsors, from any and all claims, demands, and injuries, however arising, whether caused by the negligent or intentional acts of the league and its representatives or other sponsoring entities, or by third parties, which injuries may be in any way related to his/her activities while participating in the league matches and any period traveling to and from the league matches, and all such claims are hereby waived and released, and such persons covenant not to sue therefore. By agreeing to play in the league, such persons thereby agree to indemnify and hold the league harmless.

    23. Matches should be played on all available courts unless there is a valid reason, approved by the league, to use less.

    24. DIVISION BREAKDOWN (as needed)...NO PLAYOFFS FOR SPRING SEASON...THESE FLIGHTS AND PLAYOFFS MAY BE CHANGED FROM SEASON TO SEASON AT THE LEAGUE'S DISCRETION...**UPDATE FOR SPRING 2026...TOP 2 TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION (TOP 4 IN ADVANCED DIVISION) WILL PLAY A CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

    • 4 team flight – each team plays each other team three times (9 matches) - no playoff

    • 5 team flight – each team plays each other team twice with 2 byes (8 matches) - top 2 teams in playoff (only if there are enough weeks available...if not, regular season leader will be declared champion)

    • 6 team flight – each team plays each other team twice (10 matches) - top 2 teams in playoff (if time permits)

    • 7 team flights - Separated into ‘a’ subflight (4 teams) and ‘b’ subflight (3 teams) •Each team plays teams within their subflight twice and teams in the other subflight once •  Playoff between the teams with highest standing points from Subflights ‘a’ and ‘b’ to determine flight winner

    • 8 team flights - Separated into ‘a’ subflight (4 teams) and ‘b’ subflight (4 teams) •Each team plays teams within their subflight twice and teams in the other subflight once •  Playoff between the teams with highest standing points from Subflights ‘a’ and ‘b’ to determine flight winner

    • 9 team flight – each team plays each other team once with 1 bye (8 matches) - top 3 teams in playoff (top team receives bye)

    • 10 team flight – each team plays each other team once (9 matches) - top 4 teams in playoff (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3)

    25. Beginning Fall 2024...if, for any reason, a team forfeits an entire match without prior approval from the league, that team will be banned from the league indefinitely and their captains will be banned permanently.  Also, the team will not be allowed to participate in a playoff game. The team may apply for reinstatement after 1 year.

    26. Player Refunds 1. If player, who has paid their fee, withdraws prior to the season start date, we will refund the player’s registration fee paid, minus administrative charges of $2. The player, or player’s captain, must notify the League of the withdrawal for the player to receive the refund. 2. If a Player withdraws any time after the season start date the registration fee paid will not be refunded.

    27. **New scoring rules** Line 1 is valued at 6 points per game, line 2 is 5 points per game, lines 3 and 4 are 4 points per game, and line 5 is 3 points per game. Additionally, the rule regarding player movement of no more than 1 line up or down from week to week is eliminated. Players can play anywhere the captain assigns them; however, playing obviously weaker players on lines 1 or 2 and stronger players on lines 3, 4 or 5 violates the spirit of sportsmanship and could result in the captain being sanctioned by the league. If a playoff match ends in a tie, the line 1 players will play a 7-point tiebreaker (win by 1) to determine the match winner. Teams flip a coin for side or serve and switch sides after 4 points.

    ** effective winter 2026
